IN THE SPOTLIGHT!!!!!

The story=

Detective Conan is about an elementary school boy named Conan Edogawa. He solves mysteries and crimes through reasoning, logic, the help of his friends and some nifty gadgets provided by Professor Agasa.

But Conan is not really an elementary school boy: in reality he's the famous 17-year-old high school detective Shinichi Kudo! While investigating some suspicious men in black, Shinichi was knocked down by one of them. During his semi-conscious state, an experimental drug was forced down his throat that was meant to kill him. Instead of dying, Shinichi shrunk into a little kid. In order to prevent the men in black who did this to him from hurting his friends and family, Shinichi changed his name to Conan Edogawa and lives now with his childhood friend, Ran and her dad, detective Kogoro Mori, without them knowing about his situation. As of now (april 2008), this manga has been going for 14 years (original run : 1994 - 61+ books) and the anime for 12 years (1996 - 500+ episodes)

There is one movie made each year (=there are 11 movies now), there is also a 2 episodes TV drama that was released in 2006/2007, some OVAs (for the moment, there are 7) and also many 'specials' (30+ books) but they are NOT drawn by Gosho Aoyama though he is the one writing the script.

Start of a new story : It start with a guy (a shadow) throwing his hatred on Shinichi's photo in a hut in the middle of the mountain.....

And we jump to Hatori receiving a letter addressed to Shinichi (it seems like the sender tried contacting him by mailing him to his own home but, as we all know, he is not in it...) : Okuda Makoto-san, from Okuho village, pretends that Shinichi made a deduction mistake and asked him to come to prove it to him...

So the gang (aka Hatori/Kazuha/Kogoro/Ran/a very sick Conan) goes to the village and discover very quickly that Shinichi seems to be pretty hated in there...

Back to Agase and Ai, it's revealed the medicine Conan took that morning, against his cold, was actually a prototype antidote of APTX4869!!!

Meanwhile, Conan, still very sick and unaware of the villagers' hostility toward 'Shinichi', went on his own to the mountain cottage, as described in the letter, and ends up being locked up by a shadow (who, without seeing him, thought he was Shinichi...). Desperate to get out, he breaks the window and lose consciousness, falling in the sea bellow...

On the other end, the gang starts getting worried about the absence of Conan and while looking for him, hears about the naked body of a high schooler found floating in the middle of the sea and miraculously still breathing....which ended up being Shinichi who....LOST HIS MEMORIES!!???

Continuation of the previous story (file 646)

Well, there is not too much focus on Shinichi in this chapter : in the color pages, we see him repeating what he said in the previous File ("Shinichi, is that my name? etc..."), we see he put on Heiji's clothes and Ai asks him (Heiji) to get Shinichi back home in Tokyo as soon as possible, since the effects of the prototype medicine are unknown (=Shinichi could go back into his kiddy form at any given time...)

Heiji communicate to the rest of the group that Conan went back home by train (huge lie) and that Shinichi should be taken back to an hospital in Tokyo as soon as possible....

But, of course, before that we got to take a look at the crime that happened in this place one year ago, right? ^^

I won't enter in the details of the crime itself and will let you discover it yourselves by reading the actual chapter.

Note: Ran, who usually is always stuck to Shinichi as soon as he appears (and she should much more now that he is sick + lost his memories...) is pretty preoccupied by Conan whereabouts...

This story will continue next week in the double issue of Shonen Sunday #21-22 (which means no Conan the week afterward, since it's a double issue, because of the Golden Week in Japan)

Continuation of the previous story (file 647)

CRISIS : in the last review I wrote, I said Ran seemed kinda distant and unfeeling toward Shinichi but I didn't think it went THAT far : Ran is having doubts about her feelings for Shinichi!!!?? ("To tell you the truth, I can't feel anything...it just feels like Syaoran has gone far away...what's going on with me...is this real...")

And finally, Shinichi commits an homicide!!!???? Shinichi a murderer!!!!??

DETECTIVE CONAN CHAPTER OF THE WEEK : CHAPTER 649 [05/05/2008]

Continuation of the previous story (file 648)

Again, not that much to say : the stabbed woman (the newspaper reporter) was thankfully still breathing and Heiji *evidently* do not believe Shinichi could be the culprit, and immediately think he must have been tricked by the real murderer...Heiji tries to hide him from the authorities (after all, his body could shrink back at any moment and it would be problem if that happened in the comissariat...) and was only planning to call an ambulance when, to his surprise, an ambulance and the police arrives (who called them?).

Hidden in the truck of a car, Shinichi is as 'inactive' as ever in the story and Heiji brain storm to find a resolution to all this (+get Shinichi out of there as soon as possible and send him back to Ai in Tokyo).

On the other side, Ran goes on her own in the forest to ask for Shiragami-sama's help (to get Shinichi back to normal) after hearing kazuha talking about the villagers beliefs about it : they believe Shinichi lost his memory after meeting him in the forest and that the only way to lift off the curse was to go to Shiragami-sama and pray him to blablabla (the 'blablabla' is the rest of the process which would be shouting in the top of your voice, praying etc etc...).

Ran finds him, at the top of a tree, but is so scared that her voice don't come out from her throat...still running after him, though, she ends up making a bad fall and slide through a ravine to finally loose consciousness...
